Something Borrowed

Something Borrowed is a Portland bridal and wedding goods library dedicated to fostering sustainability through the focus on reduce, reuse and recycle.

As a Master Recycler and eco-advocate, I quickly learned how much money and one-time uses go into wedding decor when I got married in the summer of 2011. Wanting a sustainable, eco-friendly wedding, I set out to make our wedding a green event following three simple rules: everything had to be borrowed, used, or homemade/DIY. In addition, everything had to be easily recycled or a new home found for it to create as little waste as possible. The result was a wedding for ~100 people, for $3000, one small garbage bag of trash (think “Safeway” size), and the start of “Something Borrowed {Portland}”.

Something Borrowed {Portland} is a bridal and wedding goods library dedicated to fostering sustainability through the focus on reduce, reuse and recycle. We loan a variety of wedding goods and decor free of charge to Portland Metro residents.

Something Borrowed {Portland}’s goals are to build a greater sense of community, promote thoughtful consumption by sharing, and provide brides-to-be of all income levels the opportunity to have the wedding of their dreams while staying within their means.
